The Wild About Colombia story
Thanks to a shared passion for nature and exploration, a Colombian and a Brit met in a remote Mexican location and became friends. Years passed before they again crossed paths in the UK, and a mutual love for wildlife travel and conservation evolved into the
Wild About Colombia project.
Robin SmithCo-Founder
Rob hails from Oxfordshire in the UK, but is proud to now call Colombia home. Following university studies in Environmental Science, Rob travelled the world in search of birds and wildlife, before taking a managerial role for the highly respected UK-based wildlife tour operator, Naturetrek. Here he launched and managed their successful tailor-made (custom) department, while also operating and leading birding and wildlife tours throughout Africa, Asia, and South and Central America.
Rob loves nothing better than putting his internationally acquired wildlife knowledge to use, whether leading Wild About Colombia tours or designing the perfect private Colombian birding tour for our valued clients. When not in the office, he can be found exploring hidden corners of Colombia and indulging his passion for bird and wildlife photography. He also loves scuba diving, running and going on walks with his partner and Wild About Colombia co-founder, Claudia, and their dog Frida.
Claudia DíazCo-Founder
Claudia was born and raised in Colombia’s busy capital, Bogotá. Despite an urban upbringing, her passion for nature and love for wildlife led her to move to Santa Marta to study Marine Biology. Shortly after finishing her degree, she headed to explore the Peninsula of Baja California in Mexico, where she spent the following 12 years - many of which were spent aboard boats studying the great whales of the Sea of Cortez.
During her time in Mexico, Claudia completed a Master's Degree in Marine Science, and became involved with conservation projects, environmental education and fundraising for non-profit organisations. These experiences led her to enroll in a Conservation Leadership course at the University of Cambridge, with the long term goal of returning to her native Colombia, to apply her knowledge and experience in the conservation of the country’s biodiversity, while improving the livelihoods of local communities through sustainable wildlife tourism.
